Doing the Puddle Jump

During late September/early October of 2010 I helped my friend Emil drive his 2007 Catalina 42, Mk II, from Friday Harbor to Santa Barbara. I got off there to take care of other business. Emil kept going and wound up in Puerto Vallarta a couple of months later, to get ready for the Puddle Jump, or Coconut Milk Run as it is also known.

My boat, Freyja, isn't ready to do the PPJ, so when Emil asked me to crew for him I jumped on the chance. A quick sail to the south seas and home again without beating up my boat or having to get it back to Mexico somehow. This means less time in the Sea of Cortez, but oh, well. We're leaving around April 2nd, heading for the Marquesas, Tahiti and Bora Bora. "We" consists of me, Emil and Dominique, who conveniently speaks French like a Frenchman, which he is. I'll fly home from there to, once again, take care of other business. Emil plans to work his way around the south Pacific for a bit and then make it to Hawaii before the southern hurricane season starts.

More later.
